Centreville
About Centreville
Beginning in the 1760s, the area now known as Newgate received its name from the popular Newgate Tavern run by William Carr Lane, highlighting its early connections to commerce and travel. The Lanes contributed to a vibrant local economy, and the nearby River Thames added a charming natural element reminiscent of London. The town evolved as a lively mixed-use community with frame houses, taverns, shops, blacksmiths, tanyards, and a schoolhouse on modest lots. Today, this spirit of community, along with its historic charm and modern amenities, makes it an ideal place to raise a family, offering a safe and welcoming environment, strong local schools, and a neighborhood where history and contemporary living harmoniously blend.
